Ever wanted have an intimate look a the making of Green Day’s American Idiot album? Presenting Heart Like a Hand Grenade, a “rockumentary” by film maker John Roecker. It was shown in Los Angeles at the Egyptian Theater and its the perfect prelude to 21st Century Break Down coming out May 15th. Those lucky enough to be at the screeing were treated t-shirts and posters as well as a peek into the new album, whose single, “Know your Enemy” will be coming out in April 2009.
Billy Joe, Mike and Tre had collaborated with Roecker in “Live Freaky, Die Freaky”, lending their voices in this musical-comedy about the Manson’s. 300 hours of film boil down to about 2 hours of in-studio footage of the band working on American Idiot, from Billy Joel farting in a sound booth, to Mike Dirnt laying down bass tracks, to Tre Cool’s advice on not how to get drunk, by drinking a bottle of water in between beers.
Let hope that they decide to make a full DVD release of this film, or at least a wider showing of it. If you would like to petition, go here and e-sign the petition by Krissy Kay. If you had the chance to see the film, let us know in the comments, share your experience.
